The natural fibre Technology and Characterization Laboratory (LTC)
Since 1960, the LTC has been developing what it offers in terms of expertise, tools and software, along with training, mainly on cotton. However, it has a remit to study any scientific issue concerning other natural fibres (silk, wool, milkweed, etc.), either alone or in mixes with synthetic fibres. Since 2012, the LTC has been implemented a quality approach for fibre analysis on HVI. Fibre analysis on HVI and maturimeter are carried out according to ASTM D5867-05 standard. The LTC is attached to the Genotype x Environnement / Cropping systems team (GESC).
All the services offered by the laboratory are presented in a brochure in French and English, downloadable opposite.
Expertise
The LTC offers its partners and clients expertise in cotton ginning, analysis of fibre properties, spinning and analysis of cotton yarn properties.
Tools and software
The LTC has invented several tools and software packages.
Sticky Cotton Thermodetector
A manual instrument intended for research, classification services and textile manufacturers, indicating, by thermodetection, the stickiness of cotton due to the depositing of insect honeydew on the fibre. Read more...
High Speed Stickiness Detector
An automatic instrument intended for research, classification services and textile manufacturers, indicating by thermodetection, the stickiness of cotton due to the depositing of insect honeydew on the fibre. Read more...
The TRASHCAM cotton defect counter
The TRASHCAM tool is intended for research, classification services and textile manufacturers, and is used for rapid counting of cotton seed hull fragments in fibre and on yarn. Read more...

Cotton fibre opener-mixer
This instrument is intended for research and cotton classification services. Contact us for information.
Training
The LTC proposes vocational training on cotton products (seed-cotton, fibre and seed), their processing (ginning, spinning) and their characterization (instruments, conditions, methods, standards). This training is mainly intended for staff members of agricultural research centres, ginning plants, cotton trading firms and textile companies. Read more...
