Objectives
The main objective of this study will be to analyse genotype x system x environment x pest/pathogen interactions using pH-EH-CE as plant health indicators for redox management of cotton crop protection in Benin. To achieve these results, the work will focus on the following specific objectives (SO):
- SO1: Identify the pH-Eh-CE conditions favourable to the main cotton pests/pathogens in Benin (Xanthomonas, Helicoverpa, Jassides);
- SO2: Evaluate the effect of different cropping systems and agricultural practices on the Eh-pH-CE conditions of cotton plants and their impact on pests/pathogens;
- SO3: Evaluate the effect of different cotton genotypes on the Eh-pH-CE conditions of plants in relation to their susceptibility to pests/pathogens and their growth.

Description
Cotton is one of the mainstays of Benin's economy. To ensure production in terms of quantity and quality, the uncontrolled use of chemical inputs is on the increase. The result is a host of health and environmental problems, including poisoning of farmers by pesticides, environmental pollution, mortality of crop pests, loss of biodiversity and continued soil degradation in the cotton-growing zone. All this is exacerbated by inappropriate tillage practices and climatic disturbances, which have become a major concern in recent years. The aim of this thesis is to understand how our agricultural practices impact the defence of cotton plants against bioaggressors by using the Eh-pH-CE conditions of the plants as health indicators. This will enable us to propose agro-ecological protection of cotton plants for redox management.
